Product recycling is a high priority for Epson and our first priority is to ensure that our products are designed in such a way that they are easy to recycle. In Japan Epson has established a dedicated recycling facility for Epson products. This can be credited for helping Epson to exceed national recycling targets by 10% in Japan. Many of our sales companies in Europe offer a possibility to recycle our end-of-life products. Furthermore, most countries in Europe already have legislation in place requiring the collection and recycling of used electronics. Epson fully meets all national requirements.
In 2003, the European Union adopted a Directive which requires all producers in the EU to set up collection and recycling schemes for their products. The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive, also known as the WEEE Directive, ensures that from August 2005, electronic waste is collected and treated in an environmentally friendly way. In the vast majority of the European countries, customer friendly recycling schemes have already been set up. Some countries have delayed the implementation of the WEEE directive into national law and this also means that the collection and recycling systems will be delayed in those countries.
All products put on the market from August 2005 will be marked with the crossed out wheeled bin logo to indicate that the product should not be disposed of via the normal household waste stream. Although the wheeled bin logo will only be applied on the newly sold products this of course means that all Epson products should be disposed of via the designated collection facilities to ensure they can be properly recycled.
For more details on available collection facilities please contact your local government office, the retailer where you purchased your Epson product or your local sales office. Click here for a list of local Epson sales companies.
Epson has designed its ink cartridges in such a way that they have the least possible environmental burden. As a service to our customers, Epson has launched a free collection scheme for its cartridges. For further information please go to our cartridge collection & recycling website
